What kind of plastic containers are good to use?

Dear Eloxier Fanatics,

What kind of plastics are good to use or not for a Acid bath?

I know that PP is a good plastic because of the temp and they are resistant against the acid.
I also use PP plastic containers,
But i have this container a big green one for the disposal of your leftovers(bio Container)
i had one standing around cleaned it with Soda etc and rinsed it with distilled water.

Now the solution is making a Fizzling sound ,just like pupping up a soda can and you here the gas bubbling?

i use 6061 Alu for my ground connection ,and i have a container (coolbox)
with 6063 T6 alu for the ground now the 6063 container doesn`t makes any sound at all ,the ground plates also get smut on it ,but there is no sound from it.
Is it because of the silicone level that is present in the 6061 alu?
i know this level of silicone is lower with 6063 T6.

could it be that the plastic is contaminating my acid bath or is it the sort of plastic from the container that gives me the problems?

or is the sort of alu that i use for the ground connection???

Why i would like to know what kind of plastic can be used is:
i have some alu and the size is to big for my containers ,now i thought lets make a plastic sheet container
so i can build around the object without having to buy a Container that is big enough and mostly i don`t have to buy a big amount of acid etc to fill it up!
But what kind of plastic sheet can be used ,
i tried to look it up but there is not much of an explenation on the net .
most info is about what not to use or do .

I hope that there is an ethousiast that can help me out with this or point me out where this info can be found .

Hi Anodi,

there shouldn't be any problems by using common plastics for the anodising bath. You can use PP, PE, PVC - we mostly use rigid PVC because its stiffness is greater than the other two - even for big ontainer sizes (>100 liters).
PE is better for welding but also has much more shape distortion so we solely use 10mm PVC plates. You also get pipes, fittings, valves etc as cheap swimming pool accessoires in PVC.

If you have cleaned the bio container (PE?) well there shouldn't be any contamination.

Where and when exactly the bubbles are created?
The bath voltage may vary from one alloy to another so you have to regulate the current - if it is too high, from a distinct point much more gas will be created.

About the bubbles ,
They form without any voltage present,

They form at the top of the acid ,but i just removed my plates again smut was present, i just cleaned them 2 weeks before!

But the bubble reaction was gone ,no sound whatever was heard !???

i have several guides to Eloxieren ,but they all don`t mention what the smut could do to the end results!?

they said 6061 is good, standard used is 6063 T6 ,but as a hobby they are expensive! so i bought the 6061 alloy .
but if its affecting my work this way i have to spend the money on the 6063 T6 Alloy.

The smut what does this smut do to the endresult with eloxieren ?

I have this feeling that my acid isn`t useable anymore.
its still has a clean appearance but you can see the smut particals swimming around, LOL.
okè nothing funny about that, but hey Keep on Smilling!!
the smut just washed of when i took the plates out ,
so some does fall back into the acid solution .

Can i filter the soltion to lower the smut particals that are present ,
what kind of filter should i use ??
or can i start over with a new acid Bath.

i suppose its better to take the plates out and clean them after i`m done with Eloxieren.

But im so curious what this bubbling starts !
Do you have any Idea what is going on ?

P.s the acid is a 37% solution than 1:1 with distilled water,why? if you use the 720 Amp per hour rule you get around 12 Amp a Hour .
and they all mentioning a 1:1 solution,could it be that the concentration is to much?
I couldn`t detect any faults et the end my first Eloxier attempt ,results were oke ,no burning spots etc,.So???????
there is no indication of a solution that is to concentrated.
