Short description: Liquid additive enabling hard anodizing using standard anodizing baths
Application: 20 ml per liter of anodizing bath

The term “hard anodizing” usually refers to technically used anodic oxide layers of great thickness (50–200 µm; in our laboratory we have already produced layers >250 µm – corresponding to 1/4 mm), which are particularly wear-resistant and durable (e.g. for pistons, cylinder liners, and workpieces in tool manufacturing). The production of hard anodized layers normally requires special bath parameters in the anodizing bath as an essential prerequisite: low bath temperatures, low acid concentrations, special electrolytes, and high final voltages imply a high level of technical effort.
Our hard anodizing additive significantly reduces this effort:

  • Use of a standard sulfuric acid electrolyte is possible
  • Significantly reduced dissolution of the layer in the bath
  • Equally good results at temperatures up to 10 °C higher (or conversely: at a bath temperature of 20 °C you achieve the same layer thickness as with cooling to 10 °C). This results in a substantially reduced cooling effort.
  • Improved uniformity of the layer thickness throughout the entire bath
  • Reduced sensitivity to fluctuations in current density and temperature within the bath
  • Even standard final voltages (up to 22 V) produce high layer thicknesses – in many cases the purchase of a high-voltage power supply can be completely avoided
  • The polishing step usually required afterwards can be omitted
  • Highly economical – we recommend 20 ml per liter of sulfuric acid electrolyte
